Master Cormaran is one of the senior warmagi in the Order — described by Minalan as a master of his trade who has reached the pinnacle of his craft and pushed back its boundaries through his own professional ambitions. He is chosen specifically to lead the magical scouting mission into the disputed territory before the final battle because he has more experience in magical warfare than anyone else in the room, surpassing even Carmella who had just come from that area. Terleman and Carmella both speak highly of him. He works alongside Delman and Reylan in the pre-battle magical survey, demonstrating the extreme competence that defines him.
