Warmage
Sir Kavial of Kelaer is a high-born knight-mercenary commanding a company of a thousand well-mounted sergeants and knights, brought into the campaign at the recommendation of Count Sago, who wanted a rival kept busy and in danger. Kavial had been overlooked for Lord Marshal after the Farisian campaign despite his excellent service there β a political slight that still rankles. He is skeptical of Minalan's command, prone to dramatic declarations, and initially resistant to a plan that requires burning Tudry. But when the decisive moment comes in the battle, he holds his company in reserve until the perfect moment and then commits them at exactly the right flank β a feat of independent tactical judgment that changes the battle. He is killed shortly after this triumph.
