In The Mad Mage of Sevendor, Palgrave is one of the nine memory-ghosts — a deeply neurotic ancient human described as singularly unhelpful in almost every practical matter. He is intellectually arrogant, emotionally stunted, terrified of women and authority, and preoccupied with matters outside his control. He craves a full English breakfast and gin, despises walking, and is afraid of horses. When his memory dominates, Minalan becomes cold and distant with Alya and the children and must isolate himself to avoid causing harm. Despite his many flaws, Palgrave's obsessive study of timekeeping and his marginal experience with psychomantic cantrips on a world without magic provides the crucial insight that ultimately connects Local Sidereal Time to the snowstone spell's failures.
