Species
The sentient plant-people who came to Callidore eons ago β ancient, rooted, and philosophical, with kindreds ranging from the magic-dependent woodlands peoples to the Leshi of Anghysbel.
The Met Sakinsa are the sapient trees of Callidore β beings of wood and bark and deep root-knowledge whose consciousness operates on timescales that make even the Alka Alon seem hasty. The Grandfather Tree, one of Lilastien's Yith memory hosts, is among the most ancient and wise of this people.
The Met Sakinsa communicate through a combination of magical resonance and their root networks, which connect to the broader living systems of the planet. In places like the Jevolar, this connection runs so deep that the trees can communicate through the planet itself β their roots tapping into something fundamental about Callidore's living nature that persists even in places where conventional magic has been disrupted.
Their wisdom is vast but expressed slowly, in the language of seasons and centuries rather than moments and years. They have witnessed the long history of Callidore from rooted positions, watching the rise and fall of kingdoms, the coming of humans from across the sea, and the ancient struggles of Alon and Gurvani and all the other peoples who walked beneath their branches.
A Leshi sub-species evolved in Anghysbel, where they adapted to live without conventional magic β a remarkable feat that speaks to the deep resilience of the Met Sakinsa's fundamental nature.
