Race ยท Human
Humans of Narasi heritage, with their own distinct cultural and historical traditions.
The Narasi are the humani race of the conquering Horselords โ the Wilderlands horse-culture whose king Kamaklavan overthrew the Magocracy and imposed the feudal structure that defines the modern Five Duchies. Narasi culture is broadly rougher, more martial, and more egalitarian than the Imperial tradition: its nobles are knights first and scholars second, and its commoners include Wilderlords, Bovali, Vorean herdsmen, and the frontier peoples of the north.
The Narasi language is the common tongue of the kingdom, spoken in the courts at Castabriel and Wilderhall and across the marches. Most of the named human characters of the series โ Minalan himself (a baker's son from Talry), Sir Cei, Sire Koucey, the Bovali refugees, and the wide majority of the warmage companions โ are Narasi. After the Conquest, the Narasi dukes absorbed the surviving Perwynese institutions (academies, magi, legal codes) rather than destroy them, producing the hybrid governance of the modern kingdom.
