The River Folk — small, furry, and gentle, bred as a servant class

The Tal Alon, sometimes called "River Folk" or "Hill Folk," are the smallest and gentlest of the Alon peoples. Furry, communal, and deeply connected to the land, they were historically bred by the greater Alon as a servant class — their role as gardeners, caretakers, and laborers stretching back countless generations.

Despite their origins as a created servant species, the Tal Alon possess rich inner lives, strong community bonds, and a quiet dignity. They tend gardens and manage estates across Castal, and their skill with growing things is unmatched. Many have served human households for generations, becoming fixtures in the lives of nobility and common folk alike.

After the Snowstone spell was unleashed upon Callidore, something remarkable happened among the Tal Alon: some of them began to develop magical ability. This was unprecedented — they had never shown warmagi potential before. This awakening suggested that the magical transformation of Callidore was affecting all peoples in unexpected ways.

Though gentle by nature, the Tal Alon are far from simple. Their communal memory and connection to the Alon network means they often know more than they let on, and their patient, long view of history gives them a perspective that many humans would do well to heed.
