The Sea Folk — ancient stewards of Callidore's oceans, descended from the Celestial Mothers
The Vundel are among the oldest peoples on Callidore, with a history stretching back hundreds of thousands of years. They are the stewards of Callidore's seas and deep waters, dwelling in the oceans while the Alka Alon and other peoples claimed the land. Their name in the old tongues means something akin to "Sea Folk" or "Deep Dwellers."
The Vundel trace their lineage to the Celestial Mothers — the primordial beings who seeded Callidore with life and shaped its peoples in the earliest ages of the world. This ancient heritage gives them a perspective on history that dwarfs even the Alka Alon, and their knowledge of the deep past is unparalleled.
Chief among their responsibilities is the containment of the Formless — the ancient evil imprisoned in the Deeps. The Vundel have maintained this vigil for half a million years, and it is this duty above all others that defines their civilization. They view the Formless not as a distant threat but as an ever-present reality that must never be allowed to escape.
One notable Vundel is Clipperman Dek'tagalish, who became one of Lilastien's Yith memory hosts. Through such connections, the Vundel maintain awareness of events on the surface world even as they remain largely hidden in the deep waters.
