Antimei's Notebook

Antimei's Notebook is the running folio of the temporal mage Mistress Antimei — part diary, part recipe-book, part prophecy in her own crabbed cipher. Antimei's gift runs forward and backward across her own life: she writes notes to her younger self, copies passages out of futures she will or will not live, and folds the whole into one working manuscript.

The Notebook has been the deus ex machina of three Magelaw crises. The folk-recipe for Pearl o' Nymph, the first warning that the Inmar Nemovort would strike Cleston, and the navigational hint that let the Junebug overfly the storm to the reef-cities, all came out of pages Antimei had written herself when, on her chronology, the events were still in the future. She refuses to copy it, and on her death the Notebook is to be sealed.
