Bound spirits of flame, water, earth, and air conjured by trained warmagi — short-lived, violent, and among the classic calling cards of the warmage class.
Elementals are bound spirits — elemental manifestations of flame, water, earth, or air — called up by trained warmagi through a specific class of conjuration spells. They are ancient, violent, and spectacular, and the ability to summon a disciplined elemental is one of the standard graduation markers of the Inarion and Relan Cor curricula.
A well-called fire elemental can burn through a castle gate; a water elemental can empty a moat; an earth elemental can collapse a tunnel or raise one. They don't last long — most evaporate once their immediate task is complete, or shortly after their caster loses direct concentration — but during their brief existence they are formidable. Minalan summons fire elementals during the defense of Boval, Pentandra has a signature way with water elementals, and the Field Wizards of the Magelaw use bound earth elementals for land-clearing at industrial scale.
