Insight

Insight is Minalan the Spellmonger's working baculus, an instrument tuned for fine thaumaturgical perception and analysis rather than brute combat. Its enchantments lean toward the perceptive and the precise: deep magesight, long-range scrying, listening-spells, and spells of great arcane perception that allow its wielder to examine magical objects with exceptional clarity and detail.

The baculus contains a paraclete — a bound spirit intelligence — within its structure. This paraclete responds with evident enthusiasm when Insight is brought to bear on objects of significant magical power, amplifying and refining the information the wielder receives.

One notable instance of Insight's capabilities occurred when Minalan used it to examine Stormbringer, a powerful molopor (a class of enchanted weapon of great and ancient power). Bringing Insight to hand gave Minalan a far more detailed view of Stormbringer's magical nature than magesight alone could provide, and the paraclete within the baculus grew noticeably excited at the results of that examination.

Curiosity forced me to bring Insight into hand, and I got a much more detailed view of the magical abnormality.

Insight's role is that of an instrument of knowledge and analysis — one of the more quietly powerful tools in the Spellmonger's arsenal.
