Enchanted swords carried by warmagi — magically reinforced, often thaumaturgically linked to a witchstone, and in the later books forged of Dradrien steel for weight and temper.
Mageblades are the signature personal weapon of the warmage class. A mageblade is a sword — usually arming sword or longsword length — constructed with thaumaturgic techniques that marry fine steel to layers of enchantment. They are typically linked to the wielder's witchstone so that spellwork can be channelled through the blade, and many are warded to resist the simple counterspells a mundane smith's sword cannot.
Minalan's own Slasher is his first mageblade; Tyndal and Rondal each carry a pair of blades keyed to their training. Master Cormoran in Tudry, and later Forgemont, was the series' preeminent mageblade smith until Master Suhi and the rescued Dradrien arrived in Vanador; from Thaumaturge forward the finest mageblades are forged of Yltedene steel, a steel Master Suhi produces by blowing impurities out of molten iron with air — the Dradrien metallurgy that the Narasi would recognise as the Bessemer process.
