Pathfinder

Pathfinder is Minalan's traveling staff (baculus), one of several enchanted staves in his considerable collection alongside his warstaff Blizzard and his battlestaff Avalanche. Minalan describes it as not his best work compared to the effort spent on his warstaff, yet still a highly potent and useful magical artifact.

Though not particularly noteworthy for high magic, Pathfinder is a versatile field tool. Its baculus can analyze objects in detail — when examining a sinister scroll left for the king, Pathfinder reported that the material was human hide and identified the necromantic preservation spells laid upon it. Minalan also used it as a storage device: it carried hoxter pockets holding caches such as fifty siege spears, which he distributed to freed slaves during the Long March. Minalan chose Tyndal to accompany the vanguard of the Kasari march, known as the Pathfinder troop.
