The Sastivator

Construct

A Vanador-built thaumaturgic measurement device that quantifies arcane "saturation" of an object, person, or place.

The Sastivator is one of the more useful side-products of the Bouleuterion era: a desk-sized brass and yltedene apparatus, built to Master Minalan's spec, that measures the arcane saturation of a sample on a numbered scale. Press an object against the receiving plate and a needle settles on a reading; press a witchstone against it and the needle pegs itself into the stop.

Its practical uses are mundane, which is precisely why it matters: identifying enchanted contraband at city gates, sorting weirwood from common timber, vetting the stones in a candidate's pendant, distinguishing a true relic from a flattering fake. Several of the great houses have begun ordering them; the Censorate, before its dissolution, kept one bolted to a desk in every chapter house and never could agree on what the readings meant.
