Material
An Alka Alon-grown magical wood used for staves, wands, and songspell instruments — the preferred shaft material for every serious Alka Alon armament.
Weirwood is a magical hardwood grown and worked by the Alka Alon as the standard shaft material for their wands, staves, and songspell instruments. It takes enchantment readily, holds it for centuries, and sings faintly under the songspells of the Versaroti Kindred that favours it.
In Arcanist, Lord Letharan of the Alka Alon Council pulls a plain weirwood wand from an armoury box for Lilastien: "he looked at it disdainfully as he held it up to the light, and then he handed it to Lilastien with a sour expression on his face." The disdain is cultural — Letharan feels loaning an old working weirwood wand to a human is undignified — but the wand itself is still more powerful than anything a human smith could turn out. Every significant Alka Alon armoury keeps shelves of weirwood staves; the most important wands in the Beryen Council's arsenal are made from it.
