Lady of Tuervakothel
Fallawen first appears as one of three Alka Alon ambassadors sent to Minalan's Sevendor, alongside Varen and Ithalia. In her native Alka Alon form she is child-sized and exquisite. She speaks for the first time about sharing magical understanding with humans, and warns bluntly that the humani king has no real power against Sheruel.
Fallawen's role expands. She handles the businesslike diplomatic side of the embassy β Varen handles magic, Ithalia handles culture, Fallawen handles schedules and logistics β and is revealed to be the daughter of the stern Lord Aeratas of Anthatiel / Lake City. She personally transports Minalan's family via Waypoint and accompanies Minalan to the Alka Alon Convocation.
Fallawen's major arc. She has been pledged to Sir Ryff since he saved her father at the Battle of Red Ice but has been dragging her feet on the marriage. Minalan, Lilastien, and Aeratas press her in a tense council scene. She protests that she fears Sir Ryff's legal authority over her more than any physical harm and demands the Maiden's Vigil as an alternative, and only then consents.
She marries Sir Ryff at the Everfire on Briga's Day, with Prince Tavard present, sealing a political alliance between the Alkan houses and the Narasi kingdom.
Fallawen is pregnant and is briefly mentioned as part of the growing familial network around the Tower of Sorcery.
Fallawen's major arc in this book. Her keep Tuervakothel is raided by the Enshadowed, who succeed in rescuing the captive Nemovort Mycin Amana from her dungeons. She drives them off but is injured in the fighting.
Later, pregnant again and holding a diplomatic post, she answers to Minalan's council during the disastrous Magic Fair raid on Sevendor, defending her fortitude angrily against Sandoval's accusations. She has become a full participant in the politics of the Magelaw rather than simply an Alkan emissary to it.
Her twin sons are born at Tuervakothel with Lilastien as midwife and Minalan attending. This is a major plot moment: the human birth to a transgenic Alkan mother provides the Natal Spark needed to re-create the snowstone effect, producing phosphorus and potassium transmutations. Minalan reflects that she is the most human of the Emissaries and has become dear to him.
Fallawen continues as a trusted Alka Alon ally at Minalan's court, her house at Tuervakothel an increasingly important hub in the Magelaw's Alkan diplomacy.
