Manservant
Minalan's manservant Hamlan is hired through his father's cousin Harren, the castellan: Hamlan "is without a situation" after his previous master died. He is "well-trained for service" with a pristine reputation. His signature trait is obsequious sarcasm β "Shall I fetch the Captain's lunch, then? Another bottle of the Gilmoran red?" β delivered with perfectly starched dignity.
On campaign he erects Minalan's headquarters pavilion, manages his wardrobe, announces guests, and handles the day-to-day business of running a warmage captain's household in the field. He accepts the dangers of military travel philosophically: "All men must die, milord. And I have courage enough."
(Note: Minalan's Book 1 and Book 7 callback about "Hamlan, remember?" refers to a different Hamlan entirely β a Family assassin sent to kill him. Same name, unrelated character.)
Hamlan remains Minalan's personal manservant, now transplanted from campaign tents to Sevendor Castle. He is the quiet, dry-witted constant in Minalan's household β laying out clothes, announcing visitors, serving at private suppers β as the new magelord learns to hold a domain.

Still the obsequious, dryly witty body-servant. Has moved with Minalan's household from the Timberwatch campaign to the new barony of Sevendor.
