First appearance at Boval Vale — a young tough leading a squad. Returns with raw emeralds (irionite) taken from a gurvani chieftain. Sounds "almost disappointed" the chief was not a shaman. Asserts the war codes:

the captain of the unit is in charge of disposing of all loot.

Through Rustallo Minalan first hears himself called "Captain" and "Captain Spellmonger." Confirms Minalan's election by the squad:

You're elected, Captain. Hell, we've been calling you Captain since we got here.

Calls emeralds "Glass" in the youths' slang for irionite. Loyal, forthright, willing to defer to authority.

"A cocky young bravo who had also missed the Farisian Campaign because he was stuck two years behind me at the Inarion Academy. Rustallo was a little haphazard in his warmagic, but he was determined and he was courageous. He was also very, very loyal to me, personally." "Rusty" for short; "not the brightest candle on the altar by a long shot"; "a strong fighter and a competent mage."

Now Sire Rustallo, wounded in spring Penumbra skirmishes, recuperating at Wilderhall. Reports dragon sightings via mind-to-mind from the Penumbra Rangers. Fights in Gilmora. Accompanies Pentandra with an estate (likely Woodsend, his Remeran family reward).

Appears at the Battle of Cambrian and Darkfaller. Arrives at a pivotal melee — "when did Rustallo arrive?" — impales a troll in the thigh. Still loyal to Minalan personally, still aggressive, still reckless in close combat.

A seasoned Wilderlands captain now. Grown "an impressive beard in the last few years." Jokes defensively about being left behind while others went to Olum Seheri. Vorone palace scenes. Inducted into the reformed Arcane Order with the old guard (dark blue cloak with light blue lining, gold signet ring, Dradrien wavy-steel dagger).

"My friend, Sire Rustallo of Honeyhall, high mage and warmage," representing the Baron of Green Hill. Officer-on-duty at Spellgarden's command center; briefs Minalan on Gaja Katar's movements. Commands the southern redoubt jointly with Taren during the ambush. Still banters: "Azar will be so jealous!" Leads infantry at the bulk battle. Reliable, professional, still irreverent.

Now Baron of Green Hill in his own right in the Magelaw; one of Minalan's southern barons. Leads Pearwoods forces with Wenek to fortify Forgemont. Spies on Count Anvaram's cotton-lords, posing as a Remeran broker contact.

Minor role — part of a contingent against a northwest-coast armory during the Olum Seheri-era operations.

Soothes anxious warmagi planning the Darkfaller operation:
