Beryen Council

The Beryen Council is the central wartime council binding the Alka Alon and the leading humani magi of the Magelaw. It was convened in Thaumaturge at Lord Aeratas's insistence and with the grudging consent of the Alka Alon Council. Minalan describes it in his notebooks:

An organization of powerful human magi and potent spellsingers of the Alka Alon, designed to combat the forces of darkness.Minalan, Arcanist

Its meetings are held at Carneduin, in the Hall of the Wise, and chaired by Master Haruthel of the Alka Alon. Minalan sits as the human representative and eventually as the Council's head; Pentandra, Rondal, the Tera Alon under Ithalia, and selected Karshak and Tal Alon delegates round out the membership. In Arcanist the Council's "Five Matters of Callidore" briefing sets the strategic frame that shapes the remainder of the series.

The Council's great work was the campaign against Korbal, the Enshadowed, and the forces of Olum Seheri. That campaign ended in Practical Adept, at the post-war Carneduin session, when Haruthel gently takes the Alkan weapons back:

We can send our warriors back to their refuges, replace their weapons in our armories, and be thankful that we lost as few as we did. Oh, that does remind me — we do think it would be best for you to return the weapons you borrowed to the Alka Alon Council, Minalan. With Korbal defeated and the emergency over, the Alka Alon Council reclaims the arms it lent and the Beryen Council becomes a vestigial body, its purpose substantially fulfilled.
