Shadowood

Place ยท Enultramar

The ancestral estate of House Furtius in Enultramar โ€” the only place the family of spies and shadowmagi set aside their disguises.

Shadowood is a modest but stately manor hall and estate in the Coastlands of Alshar (Enultramar), originally built when the Counts of Falas ruled these lands under the distant Magocracy. Of the many lands and estates held by House Furtius under various aliases, Shadowood was the family's true home โ€” the one place the Cats of Enultramar could put aside their many disguises and deceptions and simply be themselves. It is wooded, private, and close enough to the Falas coast to suit the family's maritime and mercantile interests while remaining discreet.

Governance is entirely private: Shadowood is the seat of Lord Hance Furtius and his lady Mignureal, who raised their children Atopol and Gatina there among the secrets of the shadowmage tradition. It was at Shadowood that Hance installed the Waystone gifted him by Minalan, tying the estate into the Alka Alon Ways and making it a strategic rallying point for the family's agents.

In Necromancer, Shadowood served as the launching point for the Furtius contribution to the war against Korbal, with Gatina mustering more than eight hundred freshly trained shadowmages and covert operatives from its hall and dispatching them to the Penumbra. It functions less as a political fortress than as the family's sanctuary and covert operations base โ€” the emotional and logistical heart of House Furtius.
