Region · Duchy of Alshar
The populous, wealthy south of Alshar, ruled from Falas — whose Five Counts rose in open rebellion against the ducal line during the chaos of the goblin invasion.
Enultramar is the southern, urbanized half of the Duchy of Alshar, a coastal and riverine region centered on the port-capital of Falas and its ring of great houses. Here the Riverlands style of civilization reaches its most developed expression in Alshar, with stone cities, deep-water harbours, vineyards producing the famed Southern wines, and estates inherited from the old Magocracy. The climate is warm and Mediterranean in character, and the region has long been the demographic, economic, and political heart of Alshar, with the Wilderlands to the north considered a poor cousin.
The political structure is dominated by the Five Counts, the heads of the five senior coastal counties — most notably the Count of Rhemes, along with Erona, Rouen, Chamhain, and Cothramal. When Duke Lenguin and Duchess Enora were killed at Timberwatch and the heir Anguin fled into Castali protection, the Five Counts seized the ducal government in Falas, formed an alliance with the Three Censors, and openly considered elevating one of their number to the ducal coronet. Their regime leaned on the open sale of slaves, suppression of the magi, and heavy taxation — practices that rapidly alienated both the Wilderlords and the commons.
The Five Counts' rebellion ended in a multi-pronged campaign. Tyndal ran the Enultramar intelligence campaign, Anguin's fleet and Kasari allies pressured the coast, and the Nemovorti opened a second front by striking out of Olum Seheri. Anguin was eventually restored to Falas, married, and set about punishing rebel holdouts with Rardine's network ensuring that nothing whispered in Enultramar's dark corners went unheard. Falas remains the ducal seat, with the Great Palace Library and the Ducal Almoner's mint among its institutions of note.
