Duchy ยท Kingdom of Castalshar
The westernmost and most prosperous of the Five Duchies, founded by Terine โ the beloved bastard son of King Kamaklavan โ and later ruled by the line descending to Duke Anguin, the Orphan Duke.
Alshar was called "distant but legendarily prosperous" by King Kamaklavan, who granted it as a fief to his youngest and beloved bastard son, Terine, a master horseman. Terine arrived nearly a decade after the Conquest with two dozen ships and the famed Narasi cavalry to claim his inheritance against an Alshari population that had not been defeated and saw little reason to bow to a barbarian lord.
Over three generations the Narasi Dukes of Alshar consolidated power, with the third Duke, Obrus I, defeating the Coastlords in battle at Rhemes and Bikavar and forging the alliance with the Sea Lords that defined Alshar for centuries. The duchy stretches from the Shoals to the Narrows in the rocky north, encompassing the fertile Great Vale along the Upper Mandros.
Centuries later, a later Duke known as Enguin the Black โ a great-great-grandfather to the current duke โ reigned as a tyrant for seven years before being slain by a courtier. His young nephew Parguin restored stability, followed by Lenguin, and finally the current Duke Anguin, called the Orphan Duke.
