Kingdom of Castalshar

Kingdom

The unified realm created by King Kamaklavan after his conquest of the Magocracy. Divided at his death into five duchies for his five sons: Vore, Merwyn, Alshar, Castal, and Remere.

King Kamaklavan was a Narasi barbarian king who conquered the failing Magocracy, sweeping away the remnants of the old empire. When he stood in the ruins of the Archmage's palace he surveyed a nascent kingdom that had no precedent. Realizing that his five sons were too belligerent to rule a united realm, he divided his conquest rather than name a single heir.

He gave "rich Vore" and "fabulous Merwyn" to his two eldest and favorite sons. To the two sons of his second wife — Kamlan and Bemin — he gave Remere and Castal. And to his beloved bastard son, the master horseman Terine, he acknowledged his name and granted him distant but legendarily prosperous Alshar. Thus the Five Duchies were born from a conqueror's pragmatism, each nominally equal but reflecting the esteem in which their founder held each heir.

The Crown of Kamaklavan remained a symbol of royal legitimacy even centuries later, referenced in Remeran legal charters and occasionally invoked by those who dreamed of uniting the Five Duchies once more under a single crown.
