A remote outpost on the inner edge of the Alkali Wastes โ€” the halfway waystation between the settled Wilderlands and Anghysbel.

Tyr Moranan is a remote outpost on the long crossing of the Alkali Wastes between the northern Wilderlands and the hidden vale of Anghysbel. It sits roughly halfway along the route, serving as a supply cache, shelter and rendezvous point for the few travellers (Kasari rangers, trekking parties, and colonial-knowledge expeditions) who attempt the journey. The rainy season makes the crossing particularly treacherous, and Tyr Moranan's value is chiefly as the point beyond which mechanical transport from Unger Station can safely reach.

Governance is effectively none: it is a waystation rather than a settlement, maintained loosely by the Kasari and by whoever last provisioned it. By the events of The Mad Mage of Sevendor, Gareth had equipped the colonial-tech Beast vehicle to run between Anghysbel and Tyr Moranan, so that the footwizard Fondaras (attempting the crossing during the off-season) only needed to reach the outpost on foot, after which he could be conveyed the rest of the way without further peril.

Tyr Moranan thus functions in the later books as the pivot point of the Anghysbel logistics chain: it marks the outer limit of what magic-dependent travellers can reach unaided, and the inner limit of what colonial technology (operational only within the jevolar's influence) can safely extend. The name suggests an Alka Alon or Old Perwynese origin, hinting that the site may have been a waystation in much earlier ages as well.
