Lord of Anferny (retired)
Old Lord Kanlan, Tandine's father and former Lord of Anferny -- the volcano-doomed northern domain Minalan evacuated and that Tyndal is now resettling at Callierd.
Crippled by an old wound that left his every waking moment in agony, he has been partly restored by Lilastien's medical intervention at the Cave of the Ancients -- enough to give him real mobility and a fraction of his old pain, though still not enough to ride or lead men in battle. He was reluctant to take residence with his liege-lord son-in-law for fear of outstaying his welcome, but Tyndal insisted.
In the book's Yule scenes Tyndal is pleased to see him propped jovially by the fire instead of worrying. Tyndal's quiet model of leadership: directs people with a few private words rather than insults, profanity, or threats. The narrative makes him a deliberate contrast to the noisier sort of Wilderlord.
