Travid

Travid is introduced as Nattia's long-lost brother:

The Talented one. When his rajira arose, about the time of the invasion, he chose to exile himself here, rather than learn magic. He was a windmaster.

A rare and powerful Talent he deliberately refused. Physical:

a smallish man, with straight dark hair and not Nattia's distinctive red curls, but there was no mistaking their relation. His face and hers were very similar in form, though his was wider and hers was more angular. They bore the same freckles and pale skin.

Ranger and tracker of the Melleray Kasari compound in Anghysbel. Expert with the plasma rifle he recovers from the Cave of the Ancients: "That Travid boy is particularly good with them. He took both of them at over two hundred yards" (Tyndal). Opens the Cave of the Ancients door with Forseti's override, guides the expedition northeast toward the Leshwood and the striekema hunt, stands against the baithsagalan (the six-legged cyclops web-spinning beast), fights the Kurja spawn, and cooks for the company. Initially furious that his sister has sworn fealty to a Narasi lord:

A Kasari has sworn fealty to a Narasi lord? That, that can't be true.

Gruff, practical, good-humored, competent. Irritated by Gareth, whom he considers unfit for Nattia.

Appears only via reference. "Her brother Travid was training Gareth on the necessary skills and rituals" for the Kasari marriage rites so Gareth can wed Nattia.

More on Travid's training of Gareth says:

In truth, her brother Travid was not terribly impressed with Gareth's abilities, but he did grudgingly concede that the man was committed.

He wakes Gareth before dawn for calisthenics, archery, and the traditional challenges. "But he was still very suspicious, especially when Nattia and Gareth stayed up late into the night together."

When the Anghysbel refugees come through the portal to Vanador, many Kasari experience onset of rajira on exit from the jevolar. "Even Nattia's brother Travid was affected, and he had only been in Anghysbel for eight years." Travid thus rejoins the magical world; his dormant windmaster Talent would have reasserted itself on Vanador's snowstone soil.

Settled in Vanador. "After a full year spent without magic, Gareth had filled out considerably. He had actual muscles, now, thanks to Nattia's brother, Travid, tutoring him in the rustic arts the Kasari held dear." Travid's tutelage successfully transformed Gareth from scrawny wizard into a handsome man who "had finally grown into his strength and confidence." Present for the wedding season.
