Arcane Order of Saviesa

The Arcane Order of Saviesa is the third successor-body of the old Royal Censorate of Magic, and its most ideologically interesting. It splits from the Knights of Nablus in Preceptor when Commander Aleem and most of his officers defect to support Count Andrevar's rebellion against Duke Andrastal of Merwyn. Aleem renames the order after its new Cormeeran chapterhouse at Saviesa, adopts Count Andrevar's colours as its livery — blue and white checks — and finds a new political and philosophical model along the way.

Minalan marks the change the moment he sees Aleem:

The former Censor had changed his cloak a third time, from the black-and-white checked pattern of his old order to the red and white checks of the Knights of Nablus to a new color: blue and white. I noted it at once.Minalan, Preceptor

Aleem explains the Order's deeper turn:

A small number of my fellows objected to our change in allegiance and flocked to Duke Andrastal. It seemed wise to adopt a new uniform. Blue is Count Andrevar's color, so we took it as our own — as well as a new name. We are now the Arcane Order of Saviesa, after the chapterhouse here in Cormeer. All of the High Magi you raised are among us, but we have included certain local wizards in our ranks as well.Commander Aleem, Preceptor

Unlike the Knights of Nablus, the Order of Saviesa is not a pure warmage body. Aleem and his council adopt the Castalshari model wholesale, admitting civilian adepts alongside warmagi and committing "to help bring the power of magic to benefit the people." By the events of Preceptor two senior warmagi have already retired into civilian practice in Barca. The Order thus represents a deliberate inversion of the Censorate's original mission — a magical body that uses its charter to empower rather than police — carried out by the very men whose predecessors spent centuries doing the opposite.
