Castle Salaisus

Castle Salaisus is the principal stronghold of the Barony of Greenflower, built up by Dunselen with the resources of an irionite-wielding magelord and the shadowmage tradecraft of his wife Isily. It is magically warded, well-garrisoned, and served as the base from which Isily prosecuted her long campaign of court intrigue against Minalan, Pentandra, and the Arcane Orders.

The castle is the site of the climactic events of the Magewar: the attack on Alya, the plots against Sevendor, and finally Minalan's retaliation that broke Dunselen and Isily's power. The blast that destroyed Isily's witchstone spawned Bluestone — a secondary snowstone effect — and left Alya's mind shattered and Isily comatose.

After the war the castle passed to a series of Spellwardens, first Taren (who begged to be relieved) and then Kedaran the Black, the Magelaw's resident necromancer. By the later books it is a secret state prison: the restored-soul Isily is held in its dungeons as an undead informant, guarded by Kedaran and visited only by Minalan himself.
