Continuity Issues

Conflicting details and apparent contradictions across the Spellmonger series

A running log of places in the books where details seem to change or disagree. Each entry quotes the passages involved and, where possible, offers candidate reconciliations — the goal is to track them carefully, not to declare the author wrong.

Items & Artefacts

Objects whose description changes between books.

Staff of the Archmage — physical relic or Constructed Intelligence?
Item Possible Retcon
In Book 1 the Staff of the Archmage is name-checked as a legendary physical weapon alongside Defender-of-Empires. By Book 12, Lilastien reveals it was never a staff at all — it was a Level Five Constructed Intelligence that governed Leden City on Perwyn.
Stonetrunk's Heart — Separate Article Suggested
Item Open
Stonetrunk's Heart is currently documented only as a component of Tanno Amberil. The reviewer suggests a dedicated article covering the adventure to obtain it and its significance as a Leshi relic, with Tanno Amberil then documented separately as the staff.

Characters

Facts about people — relationships, children, loyalties, ages — that shift.

Minalan's unaccounted-for children
Character Open
In Book 7 Ishi tells Minalan there are three of his bastards in the world he's never met. Readers recall the goddesses later cite a higher count — despite Minalan's stated loyalty to Alya after the Isily trauma of Book 7.
Rondal's disappearing witchstone
Character Open
Rondal takes a witchstone at the fall of Boval Castle in Book 1 — but in early Book 2 he appears to be stoneless again, without any explanation of where the stone went in between.

Timeline & Sequence

Dates, durations, and sequences of events.

"Fifth year" of Rard's reign in Footwizard vs "9th year" in Mad Mage
Timeline Open
Book 13 has Tyndal say "we are in the fifth year of his reign," but Book 14.5 — which immediately follows — explicitly stamps the date as the 9th year of King Rard I's reign. The two anchors are four years apart with no intervening time-jump narrated.

Names & Spellings

Places and people whose names drift across books.

Lord Aeratas in Practical Adept — author typo?
Name / Spelling Resolved
In Book 17 Chapter One, the text attributes a Beryen Council line to "Lord Aeratas" — but he's been sealed into a Kulla Alon body in the Cavern of Ages since Book 10. The audiobook reads it the same way, so the error is in the source manuscript. Resolved as a typo for Letharan.
Pentandra's Father: Orisorio vs. Osirigo
Name / Spelling Possible Retcon
Pentandra's father is named 'Orisorio' in most appearances but 'Osirigo' in Books 1 and 2, suggesting an early authorial inconsistency that was quietly corrected as the series progressed.
