The first time a humani openly threatened the Vundel. Auditor Antherose and Dryspeaker Nuayas of the Sau'libik pod arrived at Sevendor to confront Minalan over what their predecessor Moudrost had concealed. Minalan revealed that he had reproduced the snowstone spell, that he knew where the Lost Egg was, and that the Vundel pod could either leave him alone or face his "wrath of a ferocious and very short-lived race." The audit ended without violence; the Vundel withdrew to consult their masters.
The Vundel Sau'libik Confrontation was the first time a humani openly threatened a Vundel pod โ a turning point in the relationship between the Vundel masters of Callidore and the human magi who lived as their tenants. Minalan staged the confrontation deliberately, using the new sentient Magolith, the Snowflake, and the cards he had been holding from the Anghysbel expedition to give the Vundel a position they could not refuse.
Auditor Antherose and Dryspeaker Nuayas of the Sau'libik pod (of the Leviathan Kyrinsik) arrived unexpectedly at Sevendor. The audit's pretext: their predecessor Dryspeaker Moudrost, on his last visit, had concealed certain things from his pod. Under Vundel interrogation he had revealed those things and then escaped detention โ fleeing, the Sau'libik suspected, toward Farise. The audit was Antherose and Nuayas verifying whether Moudrost had been deceived or had genuinely betrayed his pod.
Halfway through the conversation, after Antherose had visibly registered the existence of the awakened Magolith floating over Minalan's shoulder, Minalan made his play. He admitted that Moudrost had not been mad; that he had spoken candidly; that the rumour Antherose had dismissed as too blasphemous to be true was, in fact, true. The Lost Egg of the Celestial Mothers had been found, was encysted and viable, and Minalan personally knew where it was.
You lie! The egg is lost!

And yet it is found. Where and how it was found are of no consequence. But it has been found, and I know where it is.
โ Minalan
Nuayas threatened to compel the knowledge from Minalan with the wands at his belt. The Handmaiden โ the awakened consciousness within the Magolith โ intervened with a brief, precise demonstration of the Magolith's capability that left both Vundel emissaries reconsidering their leverage. Minalan made the position explicit:
Bear them this news as well: I have successfully reproduced the snowstone spell. I know how to make it, now, and will soon be doing so in some quantity. I am currently the only one who does know how to make it. I am willing to continue this trade with them if they leave me and my works alone. Otherwise, I will find others who wish to trade.
โ Minalan to the Sau'libik audit
Antherose accepted defeat. He admitted he had genuinely liked Moudrost and confessed to forfeiting the Dryspeaker as a lost cause; he offered Minalan the destination Moudrost had likely fled to (Farise). The Sau'libik withdrew without violence, undertaking to deliver Minalan's message to their masters. Minalan, summarising the meeting later to Pentandra, called it a calculated provocation rather than a war:
I have revealed that I can make snowstone, and I know where the Lost Egg is. I told them I had a plan to save the world. And I told them to back off, or face the wrath of a ferocious and very short-lived race.
โ Minalan, debriefing Pentandra
The Sau'libik did not return for the rest of the series. The Vundel as a whole began to treat Minalan as a peer-power rather than a tenant โ a standing arrangement that survived past the close of the saga.
