Perwyn

Island ยท Dissolved

The lost island-nation of humanity, birthplace of the Magocracy, swallowed by the sea when the Archmage Kephan the Damned attempted to expand its landmass.

Perwyn was a mountainous subcontinent located in the Eastern Ocean, considered the birthplace of human civilization on Callidore. For almost a thousand years, human civilization flourished there under the rule of the Archmagi. The First Archmage, Cordan I, united the tribal magi of Perwyn at the city of Nomaowi, established the first Privy Council of Magi, and founded the first Imperial Academy of Magic. He placed the nine witchstones in the Emerald Staff of the Archmagi, an artifact of immense power that became the symbol of Archmage authority.

The Perwyni mastered magic, sky-ships, and air-chariots, and were accounted among the great races of Callidore. Their colonies on the mainland eventually grew into the Greater Magocracy. The island's civilization came to a catastrophic end when the thirty-second Archmage, Kephan the Damned, attempted to expand the island's limited arable land. Something went wrong and nearly the whole island plunged into the depths โ€” an event known as the Inundation. Only a tiny archipelago of mountaintops remained, with the ancient Spire of Perwyn standing as the sole remnant. The survivors regrouped on the mainland and began the Later (or Greater) Magocracy.

Perwyn's language, Old Perwynese (also spelled Perwynese or Old High Perwynese), survived among scholars, the Kasari, and certain ancient texts long after the island's fall. The Tower Arcane in Alshar was known to hold one of the greatest collections of authentic Old Perwynese documents in the western world.
